Though we might not live with intentional gratefulness, there are those of us who know we’ve received more than we deserve. We are the ones who’ve received the gift of Life, who walk in the Light, who live with hope in belief that God is God. But. There are those who experience life as a series of days thread together by difficulties and hardship in dark places around the world.
The thing is . . . the force of darkness working against hope, attempting to steal value and worth from individuals as well as life itself . . . is a reality which must be battled.
When we face the battle of darkness on behalf of others, when we reach out to the hopeless, when we enter into another person’s life with encouragement as well as generosity of our time and resources, we can be confident that the tangible evidence of hope changes lives. If. We understand we are in the fight because God has called us to do so and has subsequently empowered us.
And. Yes. Entering the battle of darkness requires courage, time, and resources. Yet. Life is not of ourselves but of God, The win occurs when there’s transformation. I’ve seen it. Something happens when an individual meets the Source of Hope, changing their story, shifting the course of life, infusing the power to become new, freed from the chains of oppression.
Hebrews 11, the chapter of faith, discusses the win:
How much more do I need to say? It would take too long to recount the stories of the faith of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and all the prophets. By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight (Hebrews 11:32-34, NLT).
It’s time to enter into the battle on behalf of the hopeless in this world with gratefulness for the opportunity to do what matters.
It’s too easy to do nothing, separated from the hopeless, looking away from the oppressive force of darkness. It’s time to take action, to engage in the battle, confident of the win, enabled by the Spirit of God, purposefully impacting the hopeless with hope. It’s what will transform the hopeless to the hopeful.
So. Enter the battle on behalf of the hopeless. And. Give thanks for the Hope in you and for a future based on hope.
