Today: I’m thankful for those who have and are serving in the armed forces. My father-in-law served in World War II and often talked about the responsibility to sacrifice whatever is necessary for the sake of others. His niece, Lisa, gave the final bugle call at his graveside while our family stood in a moment of silence, blessed by one of many who sacrificially serve us.
Those who serve change the world. Jesus words delineate the call to service: But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must become your slave. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many (Matthew 20:26-28, NLT)
When you get down to it, the greatest among us are servants to anyone and everyone. They don’t serve for recognition; however, it’s appropriate and necessary to stop and give thanks to all who serve. Thank you to all the individuals who have and are serving in the Armed Forces. I pray you receive the honor you deserve.
